A practical Airbnb shot list: how many photos to plan for by home size, which five shots lead the set, and what to cut, with our standalone photo pricing.

We plan about 25 to 40 strong photos for a typical rental, and the order matters more than the total. Our standalone Airbnb/VRBO photo packages start at $250 and are priced by square footage, with an extended usage license for short-term-rental platforms.
The count, and what the platforms allow
Airbnb has been reported to allow up to 100 photos per listing, and host guides commonly recommend uploading fewer, stronger images rather than filling every slot. Check Airbnb’s and VRBO’s current help pages before you upload, because limits change and we cannot promise they are the same today. For planning, we work to a target by property size, not a platform ceiling.
Home size | Our standalone Airbnb/VRBO price | Typical shot count to plan for |
|---|---|---|
0 to 1,000 sq ft | $250 | 15 to 25 |
1,001 to 2,000 sq ft | $300 | 25 to 35 |
2,001 to 3,000 sq ft | $400 | 35 to 45 |
3,001 to 4,000 sq ft | $500 | 40 to 55 |
4,001 to 5,000 sq ft | $600 | 45 to 60 |
The shot counts are our planning guide, not a promise of a fixed delivery number. Every property is different. Above 5,000 sq ft, contact us.
Which shots come first
Guests see the first five or so images in the grid before they click. Treat them as a mini-listing.
The best selling feature. Pool, beach view, big deck or a striking living room. Whatever the guest is paying for.
The main living space. A wide, bright frame with the sofa, the TV and the kitchen visible.
The exterior or entry. Gives context and builds trust that the place matches the neighbourhood.
The kitchen. Guests cook, or at least check the coffee setup.
The main bedroom. A made bed with good light.

The middle of the set: answer sleeping and bathing questions
After the lead images, order the rest the way a guest would walk through the house. Living room, dining, kitchen, then bedrooms by size, then bathrooms, then outdoor spaces. The point is that the guest should be able to count beds and work out who sleeps where. For every bedroom, shoot a frame that makes the bed type visible. For bunk rooms, take a wider shot that shows all the beds.
One photo per bathroom, plus a second for a primary bath with a standing shower or tub.
Laundry, if guests can use it. Families look for it.
Workspace, if you have one. Remote workers filter for it.
Details: coffee station, games, books, a welcome note. They add personality.
The outdoor set
For coastal and Orlando-area rentals, outdoor space is often the main reason to book. Give it three to six frames: the main seating area, the dining table, the pool or beach access, and any extra like a putting green or fire pit. At the end of the set, add an aerial that shows where the property sits. Aerial photos are included in our packages, and our drone photography guide explains how we shoot them.

What to leave out
Skip near-duplicates. Two photos of the same room from the same corner do not help. Skip photos of closets, water heaters and cluttered garages. Skip a bathroom frame that includes the toilet unless the room needs it. If a photo does not answer a guest question or sell a feature, cut it.
A quick prep checklist before the shoot
Make every bed and use the same set of linens throughout.
Remove personal items from the fridge, counters and bathrooms.
Stage the kitchen lightly: a bowl of fruit, a coffee setup, nothing more.
Turn on all lights and open all blinds.
Clean the pool, rake the beach path, set outdoor cushions.
Questions we get about Airbnb photo sets
How many photos should an Airbnb listing have?
We plan around 15 to 25 photos for a studio or one-bedroom, up to 40 or more for a large home. Airbnb has been reported to allow up to 100 per listing, but check current platform rules.
What should the first photo be?
The single feature a guest is paying for: the view, the pool, the deck or a standout living room. The first image decides whether the guest keeps looking.
How much do standalone Airbnb photos cost?
$250 for 0 to 1,000 sq ft, $300 for 1,001 to 2,000, $400 for 2,001 to 3,000, $500 for 3,001 to 4,000 and $600 for 4,001 to 5,000. Above 5,000 sq ft, contact us.
Do the photos come with a usage license?
Yes. Standalone Airbnb/VRBO photos include an extended usage license for short-term-rental platforms.
Should I add video?
A social media reel is $175 and works for social posts. Add it after the photo set is done.
